Michel Bergeron and Marc Lachapelle honorary co-presidents of the Ambassadors Club Golf Tournament
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced that Michel Bergeron and Marc Lachapelle are the honorary co-presidents of the Ambassadors Club Golf Tournament. They will lead the honorary foursome at the Boucherville Golf Club this September 19th with Gilles Courteau, QMJHL Commissioner and Guy Darveau, President of the Ambassadors Club.
Michel Bergeron
Bergeron won the Jean-Rougeau Trophy with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs (champion of the regular calendar season) and the President Cup (champion of the playoffs) twice in a row, in 1977-1978 and in 19781979. He presented a winning sheet as head-coach in each of his six seasons with the QMJHL.
He was picked on the first All Star team, as head-coach in 1977-1978 and 1978-1979, on the second team in 1976-1977 and also on the second team of the Eastern Conference in 1975-1976.
In 1978-1979, he guided the Trois-Rivières Draveurs through a season you only dream of. He established a QMJHL record with 122 points. This total is the second most highest in the history of Canadian junior hockey, only giving in to the Brandon Wheat Kings who had amassed 125 points in the Western Hockey League during the same season (1978-1979).
He has, thanks to a total of 58-8-6 in 72 games, preserved a successful percentage of ,847. This production is the third most highest for one season in the history of Canadian junior hockey.
The total of 58 wins had equaled the QMJHL record belonging to the Sorel Eperviers in 1973-1974 and recently by the Saint John Sea Dogs in 2010-2011. This total is the second most highest in Canadian history, just behind the Victoria Cougars, who had totaled 60 in the Western Hockey League in 1980-1981.
Finally, on the road, he had also seen his team establish three records in the history of Canadian junior hockey: 30 wins in one season, 17 consecutive wins in 20 games and 5 consecutive wins without a loss on opposing ice.
He was inducted into QMJHL’s Hockey Hall of Fame on Thursday March 15, 2001.
Marc Lachapelle
A veteran journalist, his name has been associated with junior hockey for a long time. All through these years, Marc Lachapelle’s professional path has been unique and exemplary. Meticulous, tireless worker, statistic lover, passionate about his sport and dedicated to the young talent, Marc has succeeded in achieving a top place among the junior hockey fans.
School being over, Marc Lachapelle is hired at Journal de Montréal on August 8, 1971. He is 19 years old.
Only 3 weeks later, the sports editor of the time, late Jacques Beauchamp, assigns him to a permanent job: junior hockey. All through Marc’s career, Jacques Beauchamp will remain his mentor and his idol.
In the course of his career, Marc has added other angles to his work with the television and radio networks.
On the national scene, he covered Memorial Cup tournaments, All-Star Games, Prospect Challenges, all which earned him the reputation of best junior hockey reporter in the country.
On the international scene, he has covered numerous World Junior Championships and has witnessed gold medal conquests more than once. And what are his most memorable moments? On the team level achievements, the repatriation of the Memorial Cup by the Granby Prédateurs in 1996 comes on top of the list.
He was inducted to the QMJHL Hall of Fame, on Monday, March 15 1999.
About the Ambassadors Club Golf Tournament
The day will begin at 9 am with a brunch. At 10:30 the commissioner will conduct a press conference announcing the beginning of the 2012-2013 season. Shotgun will follow at noon with 144 players in attendance. To mark the end of the evening, a dinner cocktail will be served at 6pm.
