Olympiques To Get New Arena
The minister of transportation, the minister responsible for the Outaouais region and the deputy of Papineau, Mr. Norman MacMillan, in the name of the minister of municipal affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, Mr. Laurent Lessard, the deputy of Hull and Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of International Relations, Mrs. Maryse Gaudreault, as well as the deputy of Chapleau, Mr. Marc Carrière, are happy to announce today that the city of Gatineau will benefit from a financial support that could reach $26,5M for the construction of the multifunctional Center of Gatineau, in virtue of the Quebec program of infrastructures-Municipalities.
The project suggested by the City of Gatineau aims at the construction of a sporting and cultural multifunctional complex with a surface of approximately 14 000 square meters. Equipped of almost 4000 seats and forty corporative boxes, the future complex will include an entry hall, administrative offices, hockey rooms, a ticket office and a press box. This new infrastructure will replace the current Robert-Guertin Center built in 1957, become obsolete and no longer meeting the needs a population of almost 264 000 people.
“I’m delighted by this investment which will serve to equip the city of Gatineau of a sporting and cultural multifunctional center that will hold some community activities and entertainment. By supporting this project, our government goes forward in order to delegate to the municipalities of Quebec of infrastructures of quality, essential tools to take up future challenges. This future infrastructure meets the needs of show producers, the organizers of national and international sporting events and for the QMJHL. Thus, the holding of sporting and cultural events will contribute to the radiance of the city and will bring some economic repercussion for Gatineau and the surroundings” declared the minister Norman Macmillan.
“I am happy to take part in this important announcement whose repercussions will profit to the entire population of Gatineau. Our future multifunctional complex will be very benefic for our city and the entire region particularly for the holding of sports and cultural events, thus supporting the greater comfort of the population. It will become a valuable asset for the city of Gatineau and will contribute to the economic and social development of the region”, added the deputy Maryse Gaudreault.
The realization of this project requires an investment currently estimated at approximately $53M, under the terms of point 2.1 of the PIQM. The government of Quebec could contribute for an amount that could reach $26,5M, in accordance with the requirements intended at this stage of the project. The contribution of the city of Gatineau is also established at $26,5M.
This governmental help falls under the Quebec plan of the infrastructures, which predicts nearly 44,56 billion dollars for the period of 2010-2015, out of which 3,87 billion dollars will be used for the maintenance and the setting of the standards of the municipal infrastructures.

For his part, the mayor of the city of Gatineau, Mr. Marc Bureau, said to be very happy towards the support of the government of Quebec for the realization of this project which will make it possible to offer a high level installation for the population of Gatineau, in addition to contributing to the economic, sports, community and cultural development for the region of Gatineau.
