The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Karl Alzner to a two-year contract. 

“We feel he's an important part of our defensive core who logs critical minutes against other teams' top players,” said the team's vice president and general manager George McPhee.

Canadiens Trade Carle To Ducks For Mitera

The Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks have given a pair of young blue-liners a change of scenery.

The Habs acquired defenceman Mark Mitera from the Ducks in exchange for their own blue-liner Mathieu Carle.
Mitera scored six goals and 16 assists in 71 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch last season. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound defender was originally drafted by Anaheim in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

McQuaid Gets Three Year Extension

The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Adam McQuaid to a three-year extension that keeps him in the organization through the 2014-15 season, after a successful first full season with the Stanley Cup champions, the team announced Thursday.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Boyle Signs With Rangers

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers have agreed to a new contract with restricted free-agent forward Brian Boyle.

 

It is reported by The Record (N.J.) to be a three-year deal worth $5.1 million. According to capgeek.com, Boyle made $550,000 last year. Boyle had previously filed for arbitration and had a hearing set for July 25.

Capitals Re-Sign Perreault

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Center Mathieu Perreault has re-signed with the Washington Capitals, agreeing to a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old Perrault had seven goals and seven assists in 35 games with the Capitals last season.

He also had 11 goals and 24 assists in 34 games with the Hershey Bears of the AHL.

Crosby Back To On-Ice Work Outs

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Penguins centre Sidney Crosby has resumed on-ice workouts.

The Penguins and Crosby's agent confirmed that the 23-year-old is back on the ice as part of his regular summer training program, the Tribune-Review reports.

Flames Re-Sign Mikkelson, Sign Reinhart To Entry Level Deal

CALGARY -- The Calgary Flames re-signed defenceman Brendan Mikkelson to a one-year deal Thursday.

Mikkelson had just one assist in 19 games with Calgary last season after the Flames claimed him off waivers from Anaheim in October.

The six-foot-two, 202-pounder's two-way deal is worth US$721,900.

Canucks Sign Duco

The Canucks acquired the rights to Duco from the Florida Panthers earlier in the week in exchange for the rights of forward Sergei Shirokov.

Jeremy Colliton Inks Deal With Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders announced Thursday they've agreed with forward Jeremy Colliton on a one-year, two-way contract.

Colliton, 25, had two goals and one assist in 15 games with the Islanders last season. He also added 18 goals and 27 assists in 53 games with New York's AHL Bridgeport affiliate.
